The motherboard voltage regulator module is a crucial but often-overlooked component. What does it do, and why is it important, especially for overclockers?

just watch buildzoid review motherboards
Does anyone have overclocking experience with an Asus ROG Strix b450-i or x470-i? How high were you able to overclock your CPU and what was the CPU you overclocked and what was your VRM temps?
VRM caught on fire man.
"just count up the chokes on the motherboard" this is really bad advice now that companies put more than needed on
Is he is linus
"Putting in a new $400 graphics card." I miss those days.
damn did linus shave his head?
I have 1gb vram from mhoter board and 2gb of vram of gpu
Great video finally gets all the info right! And didn't drop anything!
now i know what the hell is that black liquid is on my motherboard
I remember I bought a cheap motherboard, by cheap I mean the cheapest out there, for around £50, it had such a bad VRM that it fried my CPU
Lol i have twelve of these special cubes
So… How many VRMs a good motherboard has? Is there a specific material they have to be made of or a certification of quality they need to have? Maybe a specific manufacturer?
Please answer.
Don't mean to criticize, but all of you people making this videos should make a slower pace video, with less talking and more showing.
I want to know what all those tiny pieces in my mother board are, with details if possible but instead I get pictures of r2d2 and chips humping each other.
Please if you ever get around
"Not as exciting as installing a $400 graphics card." If only GPU's were still reasonably priced.
he kindda looks like linus from linus tech tips
Why they put heatsink only on the mostfiet's?
It's not better to cover the mosfiet, capacitors and the chokes with one heatsink? or its not necessary?
The Reason i ask is because i got 970 mobo for amd fx 4100 and the motherboard deosn't have heatsink.
That's why i wanted to put costum(i want to cut the aluminium from cpu cooler) one, but then i watch that every motherboard covers only the mosfiet's with the heatsink and leaving the chokes and capacitor's without a heatsink.
So should i ignore the capacitors and chokes and put the heatsink only on the mostfiet?
BTW the Capacitor's and Chokes on my Gigabyte GA-970A-D3 (rev. 1.0/1.1) are cramped( https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-970A-D3-rev-10-11#ov ).
So that's what they call a Canadian haircut.
ATTENTION:
In 2018 manufacturers are using 2 chokes per phase. So if you count each choke, might be dividing by 2 to get the correct number of phases.
Some manufactures claim having 12 phases, when actually the mobo have 4+2 (CPU + memory)
Are my starcraft dreams a joke to you, linus?
1:50 when 400 dollar gpus were exciting….
Thanks nvidea

is that a jojo's reference?
thumbs up if you are watching in 2019
I like cooked lobster. Hopefully my vrm's can cook my lobster.
2015…. damn…
One choke does not indicate one phase because phase doublers are often employed. In that layout, there is 2 chokes per vrm
Actually Hardcore Overclocking channel does the best vrm analysis
My System Spec i5 9600k Asus Z390 Maximus xi hero wifi , msi rtx duke 2070 trident z rgb 3000mhz 16gb evga b3 550w psu is only 4 phases okay and im not overclocking btw
Linus, how can you tell if a MOSFET is well/poorly made?
This video is way to long..
I'll explain it in 1 sentence 🙂
It's like Gear Snifter in Cars (4,5,6,7,8 speeds..etc)
In case were noob in cars, more gears are more efficient for your car engine xD
You're welcome 🙂
Too bad brands are straight up lying and selling poop all around. Even for above average tech people it's hard to tell which board is actually any good. Like this example: https://youtu.be/bLO-vYjJN-I
1:27 MOSFETs humpimg
"Pair it with your $400 graphics card" lmao yea right !
Wait. People tell me that 8 arent enough for my Z370 board and my overclocked 8600k even though it doesnt differ much from other older CPUs in power draw. I am hella confused.
Each choke represents a phase? LoL. No wonder board vendors continue to stick a ton of chokes to make boards look like they have more phases than they do. Tech channel sending wrong info like this.
Excellent obscure but very important fundamental knowledge being given, thanks Linus, I really enjoyed it.
Loved that swastika at 3:13 😀
