With so many motherboards promising you the moon, what features should you be looking for? And are there still real performance differences between models?

At least we got a big choice across the board.
I need a motherboard that reads minds, shoots lightning and can get me laid. Now that's a true premium board.
Nyt you cant put Something like A i9-9900k on a 40$ board can you?
I think performance takes priority over RGB lighting and other crap like that
Why am I here? I can't even afford a chalkboard…!!
Why usb-c is so important?
Chill, dude. Its gonna be all right.

My dad still plays Pokemon Go
I have a 600 watt powersupply a MSI twinfrozr III an i7 processor and 2 3ddr 4Gb RAM sticks.
I used a DH57M01 as motherboard and it broke I replaced it with the same type of motherboard and it broke again. I'm not sure why the motherboard broke but I'm looking for a new one that costs under $80. Would the Asus P7P55-M 1156 Micro ATX work without breaking or do I have to get a more expensive motherboard?
$40 it is! Thanks Linus 🙂
I am color blind :/
What about amd?

Was the video deliberately slowed down?
Ok. So I've watched a couple of your videos.
I can say i learned a lot about the management of building from scratch, but i still have no idea what i need and why. (If you're into cars, think of it like i know how an engine works, suspension, etc, but couldn't tell you what type of engine would be better, or what performance mods to do or to avoid etc…)
I am an electronic musician using fl studio and ableton. I use photoshop and illustrator quite a bit and various programs for film editing. I plan on using a dual monitor setup most of the time and, when money permits, a triple monitor setup.
On the gaming side, i only play the original starcraft and brood war, roller coaster tycoon games (1,2,3) and no limits 2.
Aesthetics aside for now, what would i need to get to push my games and especially my DAWS and editing software to the max without losing power and glitching up?
I hear this term overclocking, what exactly does that mean?
My budget to start out is 750ish, with more to spend soon after on an as needed basis.
Thanks for your input in advance!
