A common piece of advice for PC gamers is that you don’t need tons of cores – but why are games often unable to take advantage of CPUs with many cores in the first place?

Nah im in 2100 and we have 10045 core and a virtualized 50000 cores
It’s a new technology
56 cores!
It's "parallelize", not "paralyze".
Thanks god he said Tunnel bear is not the solution to increase internet performance 🤣🤣
*laughs in 6 core 12 threads*
My phone has more cores than my brain
Mostly games are design to use 4 to 6 cores right?
Nowadays more cores are better most of the time. Back in the day, most software or games were not programmed to use multiple cores though, so using a multi-core CPU with a game that is not coded for it, will be useless. Games like Scarface on PC won't even launch if you have a multicore CPU. You must figure out a work around, like disabling all cores but one, for scarface to launch.
My AMD FX8350 8 Core 4.2GHZ Processor only shows 4 cores on task manager? It also only shows 4.0GHZ speed? Sorry if this is a dumb question…
So it means multitasking
How to know the games support multi core or not?
Good for Encoding Xbox 360 15mbps VC-1 768kbps 5.1 movies. Also Lagarith encodes too which both are highly useful to me.
What's the max amount of cores supported on a particular game? I'm speaking for Age of Mythology for 6 core sake.
Interesting: when saying parallelized fast, it sounds like paralyzed.
1:10 oh… Since I got Intel Pentium G4560, the graphics is like you know… Splitting the screen vertically because it only have 2 cores… Anybody please recommend me the cheapest CPU for socket LGA1151…
"40 cores… maybe not the last one" -> Lisa Su: Hold my tea.
Outdatet
Almost all these videos comparing specific parts of the computer almost always come down to it not really affecting game performance in a big way. Idk what specs to go all out on and what to hold back on from these. Although i do think they are worth watching
"40 cores… maybe not the last one" … Well with ThreadRipper 3 on the way, not anymore…
🤣🤣 tunnelbeer vpn is explained better than the main subject
So a 4 Core 4 GHz i7 does not perform better than 22 Core 3.2 GHz Xeon
People give me shit for having a gtx 960 still while we have CSGO lan partys. I get everyone to put there FPS on the screen and show them how my build for video rendering and compiling software plays CSGO better than there build because CSGO in heavely CPU intensive instead of GPU intensive. 340fps on the highest quality while my mates were using a mix of 1080 TI and 1080 SLI setups. Gamers need to learn that yes, computers get build for more than gaming and we will still game on gaming
This needs to be updated Linus 🙂
the best CPU is the Motorola 68000 because it is the only one with BLAST PROCESSING
That's a lot of Phongs.
so I'm assuming having a CPU dedicated only to GPU would be efficient, while a separate CPU (or multiple CPUs) works separately
Time to update since 40 cores is a thing now. Thanks AMD
I wonder how many cores a pc would need to catch up to a quantum computer?
Swoon. You are so cute
.
4 cores is enough he says… Ha! I’ll be getting a 16c/32t his summer with Ryzen.
I think people underrate the affect more cores can have on speed in gaming. If you have more cores to split general workload around then your PC is less stressed when gaming
You said paralyze instead of parallelize! :))
Between the following processors, which one can I buy?
core i3 8th gen vs core i5 7th gen?
core i3 7th gen vs core i5 5th gen?
please reply, thank you…
[INSERT HERE BNHA MEME] pawaaaaa
Plz donate a gaming pc to me plz plz plz
Omg Linus makes a specific tone in his voice when he transitions into a sponsor and every time it happens my daughter barks
its not an unsolved problem, what happens is developers form habits because all learn to code sequentially, actually the problem has been solved by functional programming community, but the most popular programming paradigm is the object oriente disaster and those programmers are way too stuck on their inferior programming techniques of OO and are way too lazy to learn functional programming to make parallel programs.
Fortunately we got Go & Rust & others helping to teach newer generations, so you will have to wait until the lazy mediocre OO developers retire.
Thanks
…"okay, well maybe not the last one."
2.5 years later and we're up to 32 though LOL
